Flares

Wheel arch flares allow you to fit wider tires and still have them covered. For more extreme width tires, the fenders (guards/wings) be may be cut and overfender flares bolted on to cover the rubber.

Overfender Flares

Bolt-on overfenders are sometimes referred to as "works fenders" as this is the type used by the Datsun works race team when the 1200 was new.

When fitting flares to a 4-door sedan, they overlap the door. The usual solution is to cut the flare so that the door will open.
